The work of SEO is to bring your website among the top search results of search engines. There are several do’s and don’ts for on page as well as off page while optimising your website.
A SEO manager in Seotobiz1 says, “One of the first things an SEO expert will do is to check for on-page optimization, starting from basic things such as title, description and keywords for each page on your website. An SEO-friendly web design is a must for good SEO work. Without it you may have sub-optimal results and the cost of doing SEO work will also be higher.” (Ref: Seotobiz, http://seotobiz.com/seo_friendly_web_design)
Based on Google Design and content guidelines, the author has developed a SEO checklist in White Plains to ensure SEO friendly websites:
  • Good research on keywords: Keywords are the most important thing in SEO. This should be the first priority in your SEO checklist. So, it is very important that you choose the most used terms that are relevant to the topic you want to promote. If you want to be on top of the search engine rankings, choose the keywords carefully and focus the content to target keywords.
  • Title tag with relevant keywords: The title tag is one of the most important on-page SEO elements, as it describes your website and appears at the top of a web browser when a person visits your blog. So, title tag can either attract or repel your visitors. It is also important to add important and relevant keyword phrase. In short, create relevant and short title with apt keywords.
  • Use Keywords and header tags in Your Content: Your content should always be descriptive and relevant. Identify your target keyword phrase, and use it no more than four times on the page. Use H1 and H2 header tags to not only make content easier to read visually but also to help search engines identify important parts of your content.
  • Use Alt-Tags and Filenames for Images: When you include images to your page, create relevant filenames to the image and include keywords whenever possible. Also, make use of the Alt-Tag, which is the text shown when an image cannot load in a visitor's browser.
  • Back-links: Backlinks helps to increase your search engine ranking. Before adding the links, consider the quality of these links and whether they have any relevance in your website.
  • Sitemaps: Sitemaps let the robots know what pages are in your site, this is especially important for larger sites. Make sure when adding a Robot text to your site that it's not blocking any important pages. Robot text is great for telling Google what pages you don't want indexed.
  • Social media & links: Social media & external links are arguably some of the most important SEO factors to consider. External links to Google are seen as a vote or recommendation. Having links from theme relevant and highly trusted sites can help you gain high rankings.
